karen: kitty you don&#39t look very happy. what’s wrong?

kitty: i just went to the bank and i couldn&#39t take any money out. i&#39m really skint. s.k.i.n.t.

kitty: well, skint is another word for poor. if someone is skint, they have very little money.

kitty: skint and poor are both adjectives but skint is usually used when someone has run out of money temporarily.

kitty: yes, they will have some money again quite soon.

kitty: absolutely, you can use skint when you have spent all of your money and you&#39re waiting to be paid again.

kitty: here are some examples of how to use the word skint.

examples

a: do you want to come to the cinema on friday night?

b: i can&#39t, i&#39m really skint this month.

a: my girlfriend likes to shop a lot.

b: oh really, does she have expensive taste?

a: yes. i&#39m usually skint after we go out shopping together.

karen: ok, i think i understand. skint

kitty: yes, that&#39s correct.

karen: good, well i guess that&#39s the end of today&#39s program. shall we go and get some coffee?

kitty: i can&#39t afford to buy coffee. i&#39m too skint.

karen: i&#39ll buy you coffee. i&#39m loaded
